Riding

A WeChat Mini Program that turns cycling into a social ritual for urban riders.

UI/UX

Background

Cycling is becoming a favorite way for young city dwellers to unwind, yet most still ride alone, unable to easily find like-paced companions. Riding lives as a WeChat Mini Program, folding into users’ existing social life with no separate app to download.

Challenge

Designing for people in motion is unforgiving—speed, elevation, distance, and riders’ live positions must read at a glance from the handlebar. We had to carry a map-centric, high-density experience while meeting the lightweight, instant-open expectations of a Mini Program, and grow a solo tracker into a real social network.

Action

The whole experience is anchored on a live map where every rider is a glowing marker. A press-and-hold record lets riders start or stop without looking away, and key stats stay legible in a high-contrast dark interface tuned for sunlight. A frictionless team flow—a short code plus a WeChat QR invite—forms a group in seconds, a speed leaderboard adds friendly competition, and sharing posts routes and mileage straight to Moments.

Results

Riding reframes cycling from solo training into connected, everyday socializing. A composed dark palette with confident green accents, bold data type, and a tactile core interaction give it a clear personality—lowering the barrier to riding together.
